Banking... The Way It Should Be

Safe Mobile Banking Tips

Safe Mobile Banking Tips
  • Password-protect your device upon powering up and with the use of automatic screen locks.
  • Do not have your device remember your passwords.
  • Know FNB’s short codes and only trust messages from these known short codes.
  • Remember, your bank would never call or send a text message asking for personal or banking information. Assume any unsolicited text request is fraudulent. Giving this information places your finances and privacy at risk.
  • Report any suspected incidents relating to mobile banking to FNB immediately at (717) 202-3961.
  • Never provide personal identification or banking information over your mobile device unless you initiate the contact and you know that you’re dealing directly with your bank.
  • Never share your password, account number, PIN and answers to secret questions. Don't save this information anywhere on your phone.
  • Never set the app, web or client-text service to automatically log you in to your bank account. If your phone is lost or stolen, someone will have free access to your money.
  • Immediately tell your mobile operator and your bank (717 202-3961) if you lose your phone.
  • Follow your device’s manufacturer’s instructions to install Anti-Virus programs on your smartphone.
  • Utilize remote wipe apps such as “Find my iPhone” and “Find my Droid”.
  • Download apps only from trusted and approved App stores endorsed by your particular technology provider and service carrier.
  • Jailbreaking is a method of “self hacking” your smartphone in order to gain full access to all features of the technologies of smartphones. This makes the smartphone extremely susceptible to malware, viruses and other malicious programs.
  • Keep Bluetooth turned off by default and use only when necessary. Make sure Bluetooth is turned off when conducting any mobile banking transactions or inquiries.
  • Use caution when upgrading the OS of mobile/wireless devices and make sure you understand the risk of an application not working after the upgrade.
